Whale at Dawn / Ballena al amanecer

At first light, the sea gives up its greatest secret. In an island, water is at once cradle and prison. The whale is a creature that must rise to breathe, and in that ascent it finds the first proof that the surface can be reached — that there is a way out. Dawn is no accident here: it is the hour of hope, the promise that the sea which encloses can also be crossed. The whale surfaces from a ground of deep blues and greens, its realist bulk emerging exactly where the abstraction dissolves into water and sky. The horizon warms with the pinks and golds of first light, letting worked, textured layers stand in for the churn of the sea. La ballena es un animal que ha de subir para respirar, y en ese ascenso se encuentra la primera prueba de que la superficie existe, de que hay salida. El amanecer no es aquí casual: es la hora de la esperanza, la promesa de que el mar que encierra también puede cruzarse. La ballena emerge de un fondo de azules y verdes profundos, su volumen realista aflorando justo donde la abstracción se deshace en agua y cielo. El horizonte se templa con los rosas y dorados del alba y confía el oleaje a capas trabajadas, cargadas de materia.
