Whale at Night / Ballena en la noche

The same climb toward air, made under a darker sky. Night does not cancel the whale's need to breathe; it only makes the effort lonelier. Here the ascent toward the surface happens in the hours when the island sleeps and no one is watching, when the longing to leave is most private. The rising is the same gesture of hope, kept alive in the dark. On a compact square, the palette turns to indigos, blacks and cold silvers, the whale lit as if by moon rather than sun. The realist form surfaces from a densely worked night-sea, brushwork and texture suggesting current more than describing it. El mismo ascenso hacia el aire, bajo un cielo más oscuro. La noche no anula la necesidad de respirar; solo vuelve más solitario el esfuerzo. Aquí el ascenso a la superficie sucede en las horas en que la isla duerme y nadie mira, cuando las ganas de marcharse son más íntimas. Subir es el mismo gesto de esperanza, sostenido en lo oscuro. En un cuadrado compacto, la paleta gira hacia índigos, negros y plateados fríos, y baña la ballena en una luz que parece de luna y no de sol. La forma realista aflora de un mar nocturno muy trabajado, donde pincelada y textura sugieren la corriente más que describirla.
